A parent of one of the victims called police on Tuesday morning to request a welfare check at the Camden Fair Lakes apartments on Mazarin Place in Fairfax. When officers arrived, a roommate let them inside, but they couldn't get inside the back bedroom, said Fairfax County Police Executive Deputy Chief Brian Reilly.
Police called the Fairfax County fire department who used a ladder truck to look inside a window. That's when they made the grizzly discover. Police forced their way into the bedroom after that, Reilly said at a press conference.
Officers did not release the names of the deceased, but Reilly said they all appeared to be in their late 20s. One of the female victims likely lived at that apartment, Reilly said.
Investigators are still piecing together what happened, but Reilly said they do not believe anyone else was in that room at the time of the deaths. That raises the possibility of a murder-suicide, but Reilly would not comment on any theories.
The female roommate who let police into the apartment is not a suspect. She is a cooperating witness, Reilly said.
